The story takes place in the 90's, the era of my childhood. A middle-class family struggles to make ends meet, resulting in a very strained family dynamic. Maya, the child and main character of the film, struggles with intense feelings of self-blaming, guilt, and immense pressure to come to her family's rescue, which takes a large emotional toll on her.
This story is very close to my heart as I grew up in a very similar environment to Maya, struggling with intense emotions from a young age and feeling responsible for things beyond my control. These experiences, though extremely difficult, have taught me how to be resilient in times of uncertainty and despair and have shaped me into the person that I am today. I see so much of myself in Maya's character and I hope my film resonates with my viewers just as powerfully.
